Enter for a chance to win $750, $500, or $250!
Are you concerned about environmental health around Tracy and western San Joaquin County? Do you like making short, informative videos? Are you under 24? Than you should submit to our video contest!
Climate change, loss of biodiversity, habitat loss, industrial pollution, micro-plastics, chemicals releases, radiation releases – all these crises can be hard to comprehend or discuss in a short video format. For this contest however, the focus is more specific – environmental issues that are affecting those of us living, playing and working in or around Tracy, California and western San Joaquin County.
Tri-Valley CAREs, the hosting organization for this Youth Video Contest, seeks youth perspectives on these issues! This 2024 theme “Environmental Issues in Tracy, CA and western San Joaquin County” was chosen because this environmental health of the region is often over looked. Tri-Valley CAREs works on addressing the impacts from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Site 300 High Explosives Testing Range located on the western edge of Tracy on Corral Hollow Road. There was recently a wildfire that started on the site, burned important cleanup infrastructure and then moved offsite, burning over 14,000 acres. Site 300 and its impacts could be a topic that videos cover.
However, the possible topics are plentiful. The cumulative environmental impacts of rapid growth, industrial emissions, agricultural impacts, and climate change are increasingly impacting the region’s environment. Traditionally, youth perspectives have largely been left out of the decision making on these issues and the discussions about solutions to environmental problems.
Whether you are concerned about air quality, water quality, endangered local species, wildfire management, radiation, Site 300, or another environmental issue, we would love to hear your thoughts and help spread the word.
