On August 6, the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima, we invite you to Livermore to stand with the Hibakusha (survivors) to say “Never Again.”
This is an historical moment – the last living witnesses of the Hiroshima bombing on August 6, 1945 and the Nagasaki bombing on August 9, 1945 are passing the torch to all of us along with an urgent message.
Their plea? That we who value peace and justice will continue their lifelong work for a world free of nuclear weapons.
Tri-Valley CAREs is responding to the moment by working tirelessly to oppose dangerous nuclear policies at home and promote the abolition of nuclear weapons locally and globally. And, along with allied groups in the Bay Area, we are putting the final touches on a powerful 80th anniversary commemoration that will take place in front of the Livermore Lab West Gate.
And, so, on Wednesday, August 6, at 9 AM, we invite you to attend a rally, symbolic die-in and participatory Japanese bon dance led by Chizu Hamada. The commemoration will feature nuclear engineer Arjun Makhijani, Rev. Michael Yoshii, and other amazing speakers dedicated to the abolition of nuclear weapons.
We hope you will be able to join us on August 6th!
Then, on Saturday, August 10, we invite you to the New Parkway Theater in Oakland for a panel discussion and two short documentaries on the Golden Rule, which first set sail in 1958 to stop U.S. nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands. The boat has been refurbished and sails again today for peace and disarmament, crewed by a team from Veterans for Peace.
