On Friday, January 20, 2023, Tri-Valley CAREs members gathered at the gates of Livermore Lab to observe the second anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. We brought instruments and banners that we opened up as the lab workers were driving past. Cognizant of the fact that 88% of the more than $2 billion dollar annual budget at the Lab is spent on nuclear weapons activities, we read the main contents of the treaty on loud speaker that make it clear, nuclear weapons are now illegal under international law. We then read the names of all 92 signatory countries to the treaty, noting that not one of them is a nuclear weapons state.

Our event joined many others around the country and world over the last few days drawing attention to the treaty and to the ongoing threat of nuclear annihilation. Thanks to the participants and make sure to join our email list to join us for future events.
