BIO-WARFARE AGENTS


In 2001, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) unveiled plans to collocate advanced biological warfare agent research with nuclear weapons at its Livermore (CA) and Los Alamos (NM) weapons design laboratories. The DOE plan involves genetically modifying bioweapon agents at Livermore Lab as well as conducting aerosol (spray) experiments on up to 100 small animals at a time.

Tri-Valley CAREs works to prevent the DOE from mixing bugs and bombs, including with litigation in 2003 and 2008, which came to a close in 2012. Our efforts seek to protect workers and the public from accidents, spills and releases while simultaneously strengthening domestic regulations, the Biological Weapons Convention, the international treaty banning bioweapons.
