Environmental Health

  1. Develop a deeper understanding of environmental epidemiology, environmental health policy, public health advocacy, and toxicology relating to radioactive substances.
  2. Work cooperatively with our Executive Director, our staff and our active members on various projects related to understanding health impacts of radiation. Draft analyses for fact sheets, our newsletter and other proceedings.

Qualifications:

Intern Description: Working with staff and other agencies to perform research, analysis, writing and public education duties on select nuclear weapons and waste topics in support of the organization's program goals including

  1. Organizing and advocating for sick atomic workers at LLNL;
  2. Research, organizing and public education on Radiation, Toxics and Health Issues;
  3. Forcing the Dept. of Energy to clean-up contaminated soil and groundwater in Livermore;
  4. Safeguarding the community from future contamination, and
  5. Enhancing public participation in decision-making on nuclear weapons issues.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in monitoring activities at Livermore Lab, and throughout the weapons complex.
  2. Conduct research on select topics involving nuclear weapons and waste issues related to public health and the environment.
  3. Complete memoranda, articles, reports and other written materials as needed.

Additional Comments:
Tri-Valley CAREs welcomes all applicants on a quarter, semester or summer basis. Work schedules are designed to fit each intern's class schedule. Assigned tasks are tailored with an eye toward fulfilling internship credit requirements. The intern's personal areas of interest and study are taken into consideration when assigning tasks and work. Upon successful completion of an internship, we offer letters of recommendation and assistance in finding other internships or work. A travel stipend will be paid.

Tri-Valley CAREs is a multi-cultural organization and welcomes all applicants. Internships are non-paid and available on an ongoing semester, quarter or Summer basis. Work schedules are designed to fit each intern's class schedule. Assigned tasks are tailored with an eye toward fulfilling internship credit requirements. The intern's personal areas of interest and study are taken into consideration when assigning tasks and work. Upon successful completion of an Internship, we offer interns letters of recommendation and assistance in finding other internships or work. Interns will need to provide their own transportation.
